When it comes shipping a car overseas then there are two main shipping methods, RoRo and Container shipping method.

RoRo shipping method is very popular mainly for two reasons: cost and simplicity. Container shipping is more secure and can get you anywhere you want to go. Compare, which shipping method is right for you.

RORO SHIPPING

RORO is mainly used for shipping vehicles: cars, trucks, buses, heavy agricultural or plant machinery because of simplicity and usually it is the cheapest way.

Vehicles are driven directly onto the RORO vessel and secured to the car decks. They are securely inside the vessel, not outside the vessel. When shipping RoRo it is important to know that you cannot ship personal belongings with it.

RORO carriers can handle not just cars but all types of motorized, rolling and even static cargo: heavy tractors, trucks, vans, SUV-s, boats, yachts, buses, motohomes, trailers, RV-s, excavators, cranes, and other high & heavy agricultural equipment and machinery.

RORO shipping method is very popular mainly for two reasons: cost and simplicity. The vehicle is simply rolled on the ship at the port of loading and rolled off the ship at the overseas destination. There’s no need to hire and pay export warehouse for crating, container packing, flat rack loading, port delivery, etc. Port workers take care of everything.

Shipping via RORO service from the U.S. can be arranged from the major ocean ports: Jacksonville, Miami, New Orleans, Houston, Galveston, Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore, Charleston.

The only problem with RORO shipping is geographical coverage. While RORO transportation does have global routes, it is still not as all-encompassing as container shipping. Some smaller countries may not even have any options for international RORO transport.

CONTAINER SHIPPING

Container Shipping Overseas from U.S.

Let's look the other shipping method - Container Shipping. Container shipping can get you pretty much anywhere you want to go and it is more secure method.

This option should be selected for valued vehicles. Shipping single cars in containers has higher probability to reach the destination without damages during the transportation.

Container shipping for transporting your vehicle provides the safest means of transportation to your overseas destination. Your vehicle is loaded inside the shipping container. Nylon straps are then used to tie your vehicle down and they are secured to the walls of the shipping container. Once your vehicle has been loaded into the shipping container, wooden braces are placed around each of the tires and nailed to the floor of the container.

Even when shipping your car inside the container we still recommend to insure your shipment. Thousands of containers get lost in stormy ocean every year and shipping company is reliable by law only $500 per vehicle.

If you ship cars in containers that entirely belong to a single shipper, then you can use all spare room of your containers, including salons and trunks of your car to ship additional cargo along with your cars in containers.

Container shipping downside is usually higher cost, unless you ship multiple vehicles at once.
